On Saturday, February 28, 2015, Falconworks Theater Group is will be holding auditions for a late spring 2015 production of The Cherry Orchard by Anton Chekov. This production will adapt Chekov’s play set in the years before the Russian Revolution to resonate in today’s times of social upheaval. Falconworks’ Cherry Orchard portrays a community that has seen many symbols of its history destroyed or co-opted, including the Revere Sugar Refinery and the Erie Basin graving dock. Set in a storefront along Van Brunt Street, Red Hook’s main business artery, the play focuses on a family matriarch and business owner caught in a tug-of-war over maintaining the neighborhood’s quaint charm and the demand for economic development. Throughout that struggle she and her family await the impending foreclosure of the building that serves as their place of business and their home.
This is a non-equity production with no pay. Travel stipends provided.
